Cat5 and USB question

Post by BigAl999 »

Hi I keep runing into problem that are not difficult just a bit perplexing
I know a 10T network only uses 4 of the 8 wires of a cat 5 cable.
My question is could I use the other 4 to send USB trough the same cable I plan to cut the 4 wires not used and put a USB plug on each end
So the web cam will be on the USB and the arduino on the network plug
If any one can help or knows a better way please feel free suggest anything .
Thank you
Al

How long is your tether? USB devices and cableing have a fairly short and limited lenght. I believe the maximum lenght would be about 5-6 meters. Unless you incorporate USB extenders your going to be limited.

These ones are good for up to 330 feet on cat5 however you require a seperate cat5 cable between them. So now your dealing with extra tether weight and increased drag.
