joystick control

hi ive been thinking of an easy way to use a joystick for speed control and turning, i didnt want to do to deep into the electronics side of things. heres a quick drawing ive done in paint (dont laugh lol) has anyone used something like this before so i could have a look before i start making my own.

i am going to use 2 joystick this is just one of them. as you can see from the picture the forward and back speed control come from the pots, and the left and right i was going to use the micro switchs to to cut out the left or right motor to make it turn.
but on the other joystick i am going to make one motor turn the other way to the other to make it turn really quick.
by doing it like this i can use a load of relays to make things simply plus have a bit of control. i hope lol.
this is the joystick i was looking at modifying
