We are working on an ROV that will be towed 100 meters behind a side side sonar array. 90% of the time it will do nothing, but when a target is identified the surface ship will stop and the ROV will be powered up and fly over to the target for a visual inspection.

We very much appreciate advice and tips as we are in a bit of a rush to get the unit build as it will be opperated in the Black Sea this comming summer.

What you are asking is perhaps over complicated.

1 its towed in the water all the time, doing nothing... Well its getting wet and slowly ageing The Black Sea is very salty!

2 Launching and recovery is going to be awkward even in calm water... When it gets choppy you will damage or lose your Rov.

So... If you are going to stop! At an interesting sonar contact why not launch the Rov and drive it straight to the contact.

This would be easier to build, maintain and operate. I also live close to the Black Sea. What port are you sailing from???

I could make a short inspection for the price of a beer (Or two)
