Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a while getting ideas for a huge project I'm in early stages of planning.

I'm planning on a very feature rich AUV. I'm a Computer Science Major at Oakland University (1 year to go). And have a fair bit of electronics experience both from the Army as well as working in electronics manufacturing and repair as a technician. So guidance and electronics are something I know well. I'll probably need more help when it comes to picking out mechanical aspects.

Welcome to the forum, are you planning on using a predefined pattern for the AUV or a more fuzzy logic to search within an area?

My intent was to use a pattern defined on a laptop and then loaded into the AUV. Then it would just follow that path unless it detects obstetrical in which case it would have avoidance algorithms.

I'm about 1/3 way through parting out the electronics for the control system. First I'm going to be developing a dry version of the INU. I was looking at dual 9 DOF sensors for underwater and dual GPS for initial fix at surface. I'm now thinking about going to a 6DOF as I'm not sure how much use the Digital
Compass will be with motors for thrusters etc cutting on and off other than for an initial reading when everything is idle.

Surface GPS, so am I right to conclude that you are planning on towing a bouy with the ROV? If not consider drift under water, so you might need a 3 axcel motion sensor in combination with a compas to determine your actual route. The other stuff DOF is unknown to me
